Ann Hyams

Ann Elizabeth Hyams,Aug 1943 - Nov 2013

Ann Hyams was born on 1 August in Hampshire and brought up in Bath. Sadly, she was told she was suffering from terminal cancer on the day of her husband Colin’s Mayor Making Ceremony. In 2002, when Ann and Colin moved to Godmanchester, she decided she wanted to give something back to the community, so Ann volunteered to put together the Bridge magazine which she did for the next five years.

Her mother, Elizabeth Ann, was a teacher in Gambier, Ohio, USA. Her father, Charles Jenkin, was a Fellow of the Academy of Optometric Practitioners. He was made a Freeman of the City of London in 1933.

Ann had a very varied life, from growing up and studying to be a Young Farmer to selling timeshares in Tenerife and on to desktop publishing while working in Bradford for the Industrial Society, which later became the Work Foundation.

She raised four sons, Robert, Michael, David and Timothy with her first husband, Tony, on a farm near Hereford, where she became a competent horse rider.

Ann met Colin on the internet and their first date took place in a service station on the M1. They subsequently went for a riverside walk and ‘just clicked’. They married in San Diego in 1997 during one of their regular trips to the USA, as they both had a love of American Football. She was also very proud of having four grandchildren as well as making an instant hit with her stepfamily. Ann always loved sport and in recent years become a season ticket holder at the Peterborough Phantoms Ice Hockey Club as well as the London Broncos Rugby League Club.

Ann was a lovely lady - inoffensive, kind, thoughtful and helpful.
